Painting skulls is always fun, and there are so many ideas on how to do them. Let's do one easy but very effective skull makeup design for Valentine's day.

Step 1

Always use reference photos, if you can't find a skull with heart-shaped eyes, use a regular one, the logic behind placing lines is the same. Sketch out basic lines.

I personally think that the teeth are the hardest part so few tips on that:

  • Start from the center of the upper lip by placing the line between front teeth.
  • Ass going outwards teeth should be getting more narrow.
  • Paint a minimum of 6 teeth on each side.
  • The layout of the teeth should be drawn that together they form a slight curve.

As for everything else just try to do it as symmetric as you can.

Step 2

I just painted the skull in Kraze Face Paint in Pink.

Step 3

Paint everything else in black. I used Kraze Face Paint. After that, go over the outlines with the same paint using a small brush.

Step 4

The most important part of every skull design is doing the shadows properly.

For this step, I only used black eyeshadow and a very small bullet brush (detail lip brush). First I did the lines around the eyes in the same shape as eyes. I basically just painted the lines with eyeshadow and then I started blending eyeshadow outwards. I added more depth by adding more black in the cheek and temple area. Look at a reference photo to locate places with more depth, that is where you should add more black and blend it out.

Above the teeth, I added lines that go in the same direction as the lines of the teeth. First I added thin lines all the way up to the nose, and then I added some depth in the base of those lines by adding some more black. Also, on the teeth I added some shadows. On the teeth that are painted left, I added shadows on the right side of every tooth, also on the teeth I painted on the right side I added shadows on the left side of every tooth.

Looking at the reference photos I added some thin lines around the nose and between eyebrows.

Add some black eyeliner. For this look, I also suggest using colored contact lenses.

And that is all! I hope you like this skull design.

Love, Cedoviste.

My name is Ana but on social media I use the nickname "Cedoviste," which is a combination of two words in my language: čedo (kid, child) and čudoviše (monster), and I really am monster kid - creative, silly, cheerful but also strange, creepy and scary.

I am a self-taught artist living in Montenegro, a very, very small country on the Balkans (former Yugoslavia) with around 660.000 citizens. It is very rare for people here to do body art professionally, so I work a full time job in HR and body art is my hobby that takes time as much as full time job. :D

My favorite type of expression illusion makeup body art. I just love making illusions and seeing people's reactions. I also enjoy creating different characters that are just perfect for Halloween season.
