A great way to create realistic wounds directly on your subject is to employ bone and scar wax in your design. The ability to form and blend the wax as well as color it easily with makeup is reason enough to try this style of wound makeup but the bonus is that you can use this on a subject that may have latex allergies. Lets take a look at some application ideas. We chose to do something with the hand and wrist to give an opportunity to use the bone wax in our design, there is just something about an exposed knuckle or wrist bone to set the mood.
*Graftobian molding wax Flesh and white pigmented.
*Wolfe Skniz Palette for skin tone foundation.
*Ben Nye Clown White if needed to color wax like bone.
*Mineral or vegetable oil.
Step 1: Start with a clean human hand. The one used for your Zombie Hand Makeup may be washed and reused.
Step 2. Apply the adhesive to the area where you want the wax, allow to dry to a tacky surface. This helps hold the wax to the skin.
Step 3. Soften and form a small piece of white wax for the bone effect. If white is unavailable, use the flesh colored wax and color with the white makeup. The white makeup can easily be applied with your finger.
Step 4. Apply wax over the wrist bone where the adhesive was applied and smooth edges. *Apply a small amount of the mineral or vegetable oil to fingers to help smooth edges of wax and keep from sticking to fingers. Dab with paper towel to remove excess oil.
Step 5. Roll flesh colored wax into a small worm shape.
Step 6. Place this around the white wax.
Step 7. Using the oil method smooth edges of the flesh wax.
Step 8. With makeup wedge apply a foundation color close to your natural skin tone, to both the wax and arm.
Step 9. With your bruise wheel add a little light purple to the area right around the bone and blend in, using your finger works well.
Step 10. Add a little green from your bruise wheel to the outer edge of the wound and blend.
Step 11. Powder to set the makeup and dust away extra with powder brush.
Step 12. With a toothpick add in a small amount of the blood paste around the edge between the white and flesh tone wax.
Step 13. Your bone protrusion wound is complete.
To clean up simply peel away the wax wound, use the spirit gum remover to clean up spirit gum. If the wax wants to stick, scrub the area with the oil and wash with soap and water.
These same steps can be used to make scars and wounds on the face, so get busy and get ugly.
